Totally contemplating

I'm totally contemplating pulling a Julie & Julia moment and finding something I'd like to do for 1 year that would allow me to learn, grow, inspire, and share.  Then as I do said thing; blog about it.  I have 3 days until the new year and I would like to have a decision before Jan 1 and start it off on that day.  Keep an eye out and see what I decide - better yet give me a few ideas.  FB - Question of the Day

It's not the Miles traveled but the Steps taken for Health that Count.

Looked down at the odometer in my husband's car (a 2002 Trailblazer) on the way home from work on Friday it had 232,396 miles.

I thought to myself it's really traveled a great distance in 10 years. It's been a very good car and the adventures have been memorable. It's held up very well, required light maintenance and I'm sure it will even go farther.

Considering I love my FITBIT (http://www.fitbit.com/product) and the accountability it has given me to track and monitor the steps/miles I walk, I wasn't surprised that I automatically started calculating the volume of steps it would take to go that far and in how many years.  WOW, it would take approx 140 years walking 10k steps per day to go that far.

10,000 steps per day equals approx. 5 miles (depends on your stride) and is considered a good base volume for weight loss.  Where did it come from?  It was popularized by the Step Diet and became a number most used to create an awareness of the volume you do walk vs the volume you could - thus leading you to weight loss through movement.

Back to the odometer .... I know that there is no physical way I could walk that far in 10 years!  However, by looking at the odometer and taking time to measure the distance/steps/time based on my current trend it really enlightened me. If I want to reach my goal of lower cholesterol, the reduction of joint pain, the feel of boundless energy, and longer healthier life. I need to step it up and take extra steps every day.

Ultimately, wouldn't it be amazing to be able to say in 10 years I've gone "the Distance"... I've required light maintenance and I'm still running!!!

My challenge to me is to step it up for my Health.  Not accept the limits I set on myself (10k is the norm) and push myself to go a little farther.  I'm thinking 12k steps would be a good goal for this week.  If you want to see how I'm doing you can see at: http://www.fitbit.com/user/225C9Q.

For you - find something in your every day life that could challenge you in a new way!  I'd love to know what you may find and how it challenged you - please share.
